KATHMANDU, April 16: Gokul Prasad Baskota, who placed himself at the center of a non-stop media storm for several weeks until February 20 when he was serving as the information minister and government spokesperson in the Oli-led government, is active on Twitter these days.

Free from responsibility, Baskota has been active on Twitter. As information minister, he even warned of shutting down social media platforms. And now he is the one using the platforms frequently.

Baskota, a leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party and a confidant of PM KP Oli, has been tweeting frequently on political issues. He is throwing behind his support to PM Oli on social media posts.

On Wednesday, he asked the intellectuals to hold debates on the proportional electoral system. It was his counter tweet to former PM Baburam Bhattarai who earlier tweeted that the country needs to adopt a proportional electoral system.

On April 10, Baskota tweeted against NCP co-chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s idea of having high-level political mechanisms to tackle the deadly coronavirus in the country.

April 12: Boss says, bring eggs snacks. Worker brings boiled eggs and the boss says, I need an omelette. Next day, the worker brings both boiled eggs and an omelette. Boss says I wanted an omelette of the boiled egg and boiled egg of the omelette.

April 10: We have elected leaders at all levels of government.  Both the governing party and the opposition are working together to fight against coronavirus. Also, health professionals, army, police, bureaucrats and civil society members are also working together. Why do we need a political mechanism that our constitution doesn’t even recognize?

Baskota resigned from the post of information minister on February 20 after an audio of him bargaining 70 million in bribes with an agent of a Swiss company based in Kathmandu over the procurement of security printing for the government was leaked to media outlets.
